Known as one of the five gods of the Onmyōdō system, Byakko stands out as a powerful symbol. Representing Autumn and Metal, this white tiger deity is associated with the West direction. Seiryū, on the other hand, is the Azure Dragon, embodying Spring and Wood, while linked to the East direction. Other members of this esteemed group include Suzaku: the Vermillion Sparrow, representing Summer and Fire, tied to the South direction, Genbu: the Black Tortoise, symbolizing Winter and Water, associated with the North direction, and Kirin: The Yellow Dragon, embodying the Changing Seasons and Earth, centered in the sacred space. These five deities are intricately connected to the Kuji-kiri, an esoteric practice that holds significant importance in Shugendo and Shingon Mikkyo traditions.
