Buzzsaw Vases
thingiverse
I experimented with a new lofting profile in Cinema 4D, creating a model called the twisted star that resembles a saw blade. The model was printed using Taulman 618 nylon and dyed various colors. For larger prints, I used a 1/4" piece of poplar wood as the build surface, heated to 60 degrees for perfect adhesion and easy release. The smaller one was printed on our Sailfish-operated Thing-o-Matic using 1.75mm Taulman 618 filament and a spring-loaded idler on an MK7 extruder, achieving accelerated printing at 60mm/sec without issues. Printed on masking tape, the model adhered well; however, I recommend wood for larger prints. As expected, Sailfish produced a stunning print, warranting close-up photos. To replicate this design, print with zero infill and as many perimeters as desired, omitting top layers to avoid bridging.
