People create 3D printed bee houses, inspired originally by a project designed for company initiatives: http://archive.wolffolins.com/work/honey-club?ghost=1. In addition to hives, bees need quiet spaces like bee houses where they can rest after a flight, often taking refuge in small holes on walls or tree trunks - solitary bees love just relaxing there! The shape of this 3D printed house resembles the sound wave emitted by a flying bee. Designed with bee colours, a planter at the top invites a plant that attracts bees and has various sized holes for them to nest inside; there's also a nail hole to secure it firmly against any wall or tree. People used biodegradable PLA filament to print this structure and glued its layers together using a glue safe for bees. Scientists point out that some bees collect plastic from their surroundings for building nests, making 3D printing an interesting alternative method of creating bee houses.
