Buxus sempervirens is a vibrant genus of approximately seventy species within the Buxaceae family. These slow-growing evergreen shrubs and small trees thrive up to twelve meters tall, with some specimens occasionally reaching fifteen meters. The leaves are meticulously arranged in pairs, boasting rounded to lanceolate shapes that feel leathery to the touch; their dimensions vary from 1.5 to five centimeters long and 0.3 to two and a half centimeters wide, although Buxus macrocarpa can support leaves up to eleven centimeters long and five centimeters broad. The flowers are small yet radiant with a yellow-green hue, bearing both sexes on each plant in a monoecious arrangement. A small capsule containing several seeds is produced as fruit, measuring between 0.5 and one and a half centimeters in length, although Buxus macrocarpa can accommodate capsules up to three centimeters long.
