UPDATE NOTICE: 1/20/2016 The 2016 BUTToN GEAR is now available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1282654. A new alternate attachment style for the official 2015 BUTToN GEAR uses two slots instead of four holes, making it easy to attach to items like shoe laces, thin straps, hair clips or ribbons. The slots are sized for 2.5 mm thick by 8 mm wide laces when printed at a base diameter of 35 mm. NOTE: Ensure you have the flat bottom version of the functional BUTToN GEAR installed. Pictures show the buttons being printed, finished buttons requiring minor clean up, and a button installed on a boot. For further details, see the original style post at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1117591. Print Settings Rafts are not required. No supports are necessary. Resolution is set to 0.10 mm. Infill percentage is 25%. Notes include: First layer thickness is set to 0.2 mm. Bottom and top layers range from 0.6 to 0.8 mm thick. Print speed is 40 mm/s. A part cooling fan is recommended after the first layer, with retraction turned on. Some fine details may require post processing to remove hairs. Design Background My kids suggested this design for shoes and similar items, so I added slots instead of holes for easy attachment. TrueSpace 6.6 was used to create this design.
