A butterfly valve serves for isolating or modulating fluid flow via a rotatable disk. Its operation resembles that of a ball valve, permitting quick shut off. The disk is situated in the pipe's center, with a rod linked to an external actuator rotating it parallel or perpendicular to flow direction.
