Butterfly Valve
grabcad
A butterfly valve is a versatile type of valve that can be employed for isolating or controlling fluid flow. The closure mechanism comprises a disk-shaped component. Operationally, it functions similarly to a ball valve, allowing for rapid shut-off capability. This type of valve is often preferred due to its affordability compared to other designs and its lighter weight, which necessitates less support infrastructure. The disk is positioned in the center of the pipe and is connected via a rod to an external actuator. By rotating the actuator, the disk can be aligned either parallel or perpendicular to the flow path. In contrast to ball valves, the disk consistently obstructs the flow path, leading to a consistent pressure drop across the valve, irrespective of its position.
