The butterfly valve is a popular type of valve used to control fluid flow in a variety of applications. This type of valve gets its name from the way it operates - by rotating a disk or "butterfly" that blocks or allows fluid to pass through the pipe. When the valve is open, the butterfly disk aligns with the direction of fluid flow and doesn't obstruct it. Conversely, when the valve is closed, the butterfly disk is rotated 90 degrees, blocking the fluid from passing through the valve.
