Butterfly nut for M5
thingiverse
A similar alternative to my prior "thumbwheel nut" post, this design serves as a replacement for damaged parts on an affordable light stand (http://dx.com/p/603-magnalium-folding-studio-photography-light-tripod-black-max-5kg-164000). Customization options are available in the SCAD file to tailor the part according to specific requirements. If you possess an 8mm nut, simply print; otherwise, customize and print with modifications using variables in the SCAD file. Tested and settled on 0.22mm layer thickness, 3 shells, and 35% infill using PLA on a Replicator 2 printer. The hexagon holding the nut may prove weak if tightening is required; thus, it's advisable to securely glue it in place for added strength.
