Butterfly laptop stand

Butterfly laptop stand

I rebuilt my butterfly laptop stand from scratch, aiming to make it more stable and support a wider range of laptop models. This design should accommodate any 13-14" laptop that is no thicker than 12mm when the lid is open. I've successfully tested it with the 13" Macbook featuring a touchbar, the 15" Macbook also with a touchbar, the 14" Lenovo Ideapad 720s, and the 15" Dell Precision M3800. Unfortunately, the Dell proved too thick due to its rubber feet. For larger machines, you might be able to get away with simply scaling this up. Please share your findings if you try it out! This design is remarkably stable in any direction and represents a significant improvement over my previous version. It even seemed stable enough with the 15" Macbook, but results may vary. The stand raises the machine to an angle of approximately 38 degrees, which is near the maximum that a Macbook can use while still keeping its display upright. Next, I plan to round off the corners as they are dangerously sharp. I decided to upload this new design instead of updating the old one because the old version was highly specific to a single laptop model. I might eventually remove it altogether. Update: I've added a new version with rounded corners, but I haven't printed it yet and can't guarantee how it will affect the balance or stability.
