Butterfly

For the joint project, I chose to design a butterfly using two print-in-place hinges. To start, I designed my hinge joints by following Dr. Plante's online tutorial. Initially, a sketch was created using the line, three-point rectangle, offset, and trim tools to create the basic shapes for the hinge, which were then extruded to form the bodies. Cones were added to one body using the circle, extrusion, taper, and mirror tools. To create a functional hinge, the two bodies were combined by cutting away the cones on the second body. Next, a fillet was added to the edges of the bodies to ensure that the hinge would print in place without supports. This joint was then copied, resulting in two hinges. I imported a butterfly canvas into Fusion 360 and created an outline using the spline tool. The butterfly was extruded away from the original bodies, and eyeballs were extruded inwardly. Finally, an STL file was uploaded to Cura and printed on the Ultimaker 3.
