Butchered Animal Rib
sketchfab
This perfectly preserved animal rib was unearthed by the CAP crew during the 2015 field school while excavating a trash pit linked to the former residence of Thomas Gunson, a celebrated Professor in the Horticulture Department at the college. He resided in a house with an attached greenhouse on the campus grounds from 1891 until his passing in 1940. Renowned for hosting extravagant dinner parties, he would extend invitations to friends, faculty, and even students. It is conceivable that this animal rib was discarded after one of these lavish gatherings. Although the species has yet to be identified, the rib appears to come from a medium-sized mammal - likely from a pig, sheep, or goat. The cut through the rib indicates that this particular cut of meat was a pork chop, lamb chop, or part of a rack of loin ribs - all choice cuts!
