Bust of Sophocles
myminifactory
The bust depicts Sophocles with symmetrical facial features, tightly coiled curls and a thick, perfectly groomed beard. As this representation is based on an older image of the poet, who passed away at 90, its idealized form shows minimal signs of aging. Fine wrinkles appear on his forehead, while slight carving details are visible on the crow's feet surrounding his eyes. This replica dates back to the 1st century AD and originates from a 1 BC original now housed in Rome's Capitoline Museums.
