Bust of Silenus

Bust of Silenus

myminifactory

This beautifully rendered bust showcases Silenus, a striking figure with human-like features, adorned with ears and flowing locks, as part of Dionysus's grand procession. The original sculpture was likely a majestic full-figure standing work of art. In his hand, Silenus probably held one of the characteristic symbols of Dionysus's followers: a cluster of luscious grapes, a wine skin, or a libation cup. The slightly inaccurate drilling and craftsmanship on the back suggest that the statue was skillfully placed in a niche or against a wall to create a visually striking display. Discovered in Padova, along the via Cesare Battisti.
