Bust of Sigmund Freud
myminifactory
This bronze bust was crafted from a plaster model sculpted by Oscar Nemon directly from life in Freud's garden in Vienna, completed in 1931. Considered an "Astonishingly life-like impression" by Freud, this piece has been finished with Nemon's signature deep wax patina, similar to the original bust at the Nemon Estate. Sigmund Freud was a renowned Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical approach for treating psychopathology through conversation between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Born to Galician Jewish parents in the Moravian town of Freiberg within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Freud earned his medical degree from the University of Vienna in 1881. Upon completing his habilitation in 1885, he was appointed a docent in neuropathology and became an affiliated professor in 1902. Freud established his clinical practice in Vienna in 1886, where he lived and worked until leaving Austria to escape the Nazis in 1938. He passed away in exile in the United Kingdom in 1939.
