Raphael Sanzio da Urbino, a renowned Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, made his mark on history. Born either April 6 or March 28, 1483, he lived until April 6, 1520. His work stands out for its clarity of form, ease of composition, and visual achievement of the Neoplatonic ideal of human grandeur. Along with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael forms a trio of great masters of that era. This sculpture is a reproduction of another one created by Paolo Naldini in Rome, 1614-1691, to adorn the monument designed by Carlo Maratta as a tribute to the painter's memory.
