Bust of Queen Victoria
myminifactory
The youthful Queen Victoria is depicted as an idealized figure in stark contrast to more lifelike portraits of her. Dressed in a version of classical robes and adorned with a wreath of roses, she eschews the traditional laurel wreath of Roman heroes and emperors. Queen Victoria is inextricably linked to Britain's great era of industrial growth, economic advancement, and imperial dominance. At the time of her passing, it was claimed that Britain's global empire stretched across the world, with the sun never setting on its vast territories. In the early years of her reign, Queen Victoria was heavily influenced by two key figures: Lord Melbourne, her first Prime Minister, and Prince Albert, whom she married in 1840. Both men played a pivotal role in educating her on the intricacies of ruling a 'constitutional monarchy', where the monarch's powers are significantly limited but their influence is considerable. This sculpture of Queen Victoria was crafted by Johann Jacob Flatters, a skilled artist from London who was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1786 and later died in Paris in 1845.
