Pietro Tenerani was an Italian sculptor renowned for his Neoclassic sculpture. Born in Torano near Carrara, he initially trained with his maternal uncle Pietro Marchetti before securing a scholarship to study in Rome in 1813. Under the tutelage of Thorvaldsen, he honed his skills and thrived, producing numerous works in a chaste neoclassical style that spanned into the mid-nineteenth century. His expertise lay in creating pious subjects, with his most notable commission being the tomb of Pope Pius VIII in Rome. Meanwhile, Giuseppe Obici was born in Spilamberto near Modena, where he grew up amidst a strong inclination for the arts. As a child, he showed remarkable talent, which led him to attend the seminar and the Academy of Fine Arts in Modena simultaneously. After securing a scholarship from Duke Francesco IV d'Este in 1834, Obici moved to Carrara to pursue further education at the Academy of Improvement. He eventually settled in Rome in 1837, choosing not to return even when offered the opportunity to occupy the ducal chair of sculpture at the Academy of Modena. Obici passed away in Rome in 1878 and was initially buried there. However, in 1981, his remains were relocated to the cemetery in Spilamberto, his hometown.
