A bust of Margaret Harrison, dubbed 'Peggy,' proudly sports a delicate lace-edged chemise and an intricately embroidered shawl knotted snugly around its pedestal. As Joseph Mayer's trusted travel companion, this sculpture stands out with its unusual representation of the sitter's arms, a feature more commonly seen in late 18th century French works by Barre and Houdon, as well as in select Roman portrait busts. Fontana skillfully employs this device to capture the captivating charm and boundless vitality of his subject.
