Bust of Ottavio Farnese
myminifactory
Stylistic kinship with the bronze bust of Alfonso II d'Este exists, attributed to Leone Leoni (1509-90) and Lodovico Lombardi (1507/08-75), as seen in his signed imperator bust in Vaduz, part of the Prince of Liechtenstein's collection. The work remains unfinished, with the head considered fairly finished from the artist's hand, but the bust itself and associated pedestal are only roughly carved and not completed, the right shoulder broken and repaired. Ottavio Farnese ruled as Duke of Parma and Piacenza from 1547 until his death in 1586, also reigning as Duke of Castro from 1545 to 1547 and again from 1553 until his passing on September 18.
