The statue that our hero deserved Gallardo, at just 43, has won ten titles at River, including two Libertadores. He has eliminated Boca all five times they have met in cup competitions under Gallardo, most recently in the Libertadores semi-final at the end of October. Such a run is unprecedented in the history of the Argentine derby. Gallardo has a contract with River until December 2021. But there is no certainty that he will be sitting on the bench next year, given that his name has begun to sound to manage clubs in Europe.
