Bust of Marcantonio Ruzzini
myminifactory
The original marble, crafted by Domenico da Salo (an Italian artist active from 1554-1571), was reportedly displayed in the entrance hall of the Palazzo Ruzzini at the Camodo di S. Maria Formosa in Venice. Very little is known about the artwork's origins, the sculptor's background, and the subject - Marcantonio Ruzzini. The Ruzzini family was a noble family that originally migrated from Constantinople around 1100. Marco Ruzzini gained fame for defeating the Genoese in Negroponte in 1358. Carlo Ruzzini held the position of Doge in 1732. The side of the bust features an inscription: DNICVS Q PETRI DE SALODIO S.F., M. ANT. RVZ
