Louisa May Alcott embarked on her professional writing career in her teenage years after her father, visionary thinker Bronson Alcott, abandoned the family due to dire financial circumstances. In 1854, she released her debut book, Flower Fables, which paved the way for a successful literary career. Following her service as a nurse during the Civil War, she penned the memoir Hospital Sketches in 1863, capturing the harsh realities of war-torn hospitals. Asked by her publisher to craft a novel specifically for girls, Alcott drew heavily from her own family's experiences and created Little Women (1868), a timeless tale that chronicles the lives of four March sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. This endearing novel resonated with readers upon its release and has since become an iconic American literary classic.
