Bust of Lenin at the Islington Museum, London
myminifactory
This statue, crafted in 1937, served as the focal point of a monument constructed in 1942 by Finsbury Council and designed by renowned Russian architect Berthold Lubetkin. The statue itself originated from the Soviet Embassy. Standing tall in Holford Square, it faced number 30, where Lenin had resided during the years 1902-3. As Russia joined forces with Britain in World War Two, Finsbury Council, a socialist borough, conceived the monument as a testament to their alliance. Some individuals questioned whether communism should be commemorated and responded by vandalizing the statue. Upon its relocation to Islington Town Hall, red paint was hurled at it twice. It became an emblem of what the press described as a "Looney Left" council in the 1980s. This item is part of "Scan The World".
