Bust of Julius Caesar

cults3d

The face of the dictator presents very specific facial characteristics that blend with the idealized features. This feature seems to be inspired by the portraits of Hellenistic rulers and stands out in the images that reproduce the last physiognomy of Gaius Julius Caesar. This portrait was probably designed after the Ides of March 44 BC and can be dated between 30-20 BC. Caesar, politician, military man and writer (100-44 BC), profoundly transformed the republican state of Rome, paving the way for his adopted son Octavian to revolutionize the political system that led to the establishment of the empire. This bust was sold to the Vatican Museums by the sculptor Vinzenzo Pacetti in 1804, restored in 1823, it was exhibited for a long time in the Chiaramonti Museum.
