Bust of Julia Mamaea
myminifactory
This bust, a replica of Julia Mamaea (AD 192-235), mother and regent for emperor Severus Alexander, resides at The British Museum (1865,0103.8). It bears striking resemblance to another replica from Otricoli in the Vatican; however, its authenticity as an original is questioned due to uniform weathering, a low back cut, and a contrastingly smoothed interior surface compared to other busts of this era.
