Bust of Faustina the Elder

Bust of Faustina the Elder

myminifactory

This plaster head is a reworked cast from a bust of Faustina the Elder, Inv. Scu 851, residing at The Capitoline Museum in Rome. Faustina, born circa 100 AD and died around 140 AD, was the wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius who, although dying early in his principate, continued to be prominently commemorated as a diva posthumously playing a pivotal symbolic role in Antoninus Pius' regime. The irises, pupils, and iconic hairstyle are expertly carved and engraved, allowing it to be dated to the middle of the 2nd century AD, during the Antonine era. The original portrait was unearthed during the construction of the Via Principe Eugenio. Collaboration between The Statens Museum for Kunst and Scan the World resulted in this scan, produced as part of the SMK-Open project. All models generated from this initiative are available under an open-source license. Scanner - Artec Eva
