Bust of Demeter
myminifactory
The goddess wears a regal diadem that rises high above her head, draped in a veil that cascades elegantly down to her shoulders. Her exquisite oval face is defined by delicate lines, a soft and inviting mouth, and striking almond-shaped eyes. This stately visage is eerily reminiscent of classic depictions of Demeter-Ceres or female portraits that proudly display the iconography of the revered goddess who safeguarded the harvest. The sculpture, dated by experts to the initial half of the 2nd century AD, exhibits features inspired by a model crafted by Praxiteles in the 4th century BC.
