Laurent Delvaux (1696, Ghent - 24 February 1778, Nivelles) was a renowned Flemish sculptor who left an indelible mark on the art world with his extraordinary international career that took him to London and Rome before returning to the Austrian Netherlands as the court's esteemed sculptor. Delvaux stood at the forefront of artistic evolution, bridging the Baroque and Neo-classicism movements with ease. Delvaux crafted a magnificent series of twelve busts of Roman emperors in Warandepark, Brussels, which have been on permanent display since 1782. These striking sculptures surround a majestic fountain, each carved from gleaming white marble, adorned with armor crafted from jasper-coloured marble. Although the faces of these statues have weathered significantly over time, it is believed that one of them depicts Emperor Caligula.
