Bust of Athlete at the MET, New York

This head of a youth sporting a fillet must have belonged to a statue of a triumphant athlete. It likely rested one arm gently on its head; the remnants of a rectangular support can still be seen amidst his curls. Roman replicas often conformed to contemporary tastes, and the contrast between polished skin and deeply drilled hair on this head would have held special appeal for patrons in the second century A.D. This object is part of "Scan The World".
