Antinous stood out as a stunning Greek youth, and an intimate companion (or romantic partner) of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Following Antinous's tragic demise, the Emperor spread his captivating portraits throughout the entire empire, and his distinctive curly hairstyle became the defining characteristic for the style of young men's portraits that succeeded him to the throne, from Marcus Aurelius to Caracalla. This modern bust was crafted by Cavaceppi in Rome.
