Anna Haava stands out as one of Estonia's most celebrated poets from the turn of the 20th century. Marked by an unwavering authenticity of emotion and melodic quality, as well as a ballad-like innocence, her passion for poetry and nature lyrics brought romantic elements to Estonian verse. Her initial verses were published in 1886 within a book titled Poems. This was followed by collections of poetry called Waves, In the Cross Waves, and The Children of the North. Anna Haava also translated Greek mythology and the works of William Shakespeare, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, Hans Christian Andersen, and others. Many of her poems have been set to music and these songs remain popular today.
