Bust of an unknown man

The enigmatic terracotta bust portrays a man whose identity remains unknown despite online sources hinting that he may be Statius Ursulus, a mysterious figure of some renown. The bust was crafted by French artist Marc Arcis (Mouzens, Tarn, circa 1655 - Toulouse, 1739), a master sculptor whose work continues to captivate art enthusiasts today. After the devastating destruction of the ancient Illustres du Capitole in 1887, the sculpture found a new home at the museum where it now takes pride of place on permanent display within the Église's hallowed halls.
