This incredible terracotta figure likely served as the model for numerous other versions, including a stunning marble piece from 1738 (now in Leeds). Pope was the most celebrated poet and critic of his time, renowned for epic works such as The Rape of the Lock (1712), An Essay on Man (1734), Homer translations, and unforgettable sayings like 'a little learning is a hazardous thing.' Crafted by French-born master Roubiliac, who relocated to England in 1730, this magnificent bust shattered records when it sold at auction in 1970. This item belongs to the "Scan The World" collection.
