myminifactory
This work, attributed to the renowned Renaissance master Donatello, showcases a majestic bust of a young man adorned with a substantial, antique medallion encircling his neck. Crafted between 1450 and 1455, the original masterpiece resides in the esteemed Museo Nazionale di Bargello, Florence. Janson (1957) devotes considerable attention to this piece in Volume I, plates 232-36, and Volume II, pages 141-143, pondering whether the bust might be a self-portrait of Donatello himself, but ultimately attributes it to his remarkable oeuvre for lack of concrete evidence. Historians once believed this stunning work to be a portrait of G.A. Gattemalata, but subsequent research has raised doubts about this identification.
