Bust of a Nymph

Bust of a Nymph

myminifactory

This statue is linked to Gibson's full-length sculpture of 'A Nymph untying her Sandal', created for Lord Yarborough in 1831. Gibson and his studio produced numerous 'fancy busts' after his own statues, as well as many classical and neo-classical masterpieces. Unlike other goddesses, nymphs are typically viewed as divine energies that bring nature to life, often depicted as stunningly beautiful young maidens who love to dance and sing; their carefree amorousness sets them apart from the restrictive and chaste wives and daughters of ancient Greece. They are highly regarded by many and inhabit mountainous territories and forests near lakes and streams.
