Burton gaspedal binding part (size M)
thingiverse
I designed a quick version of the original Burton gaspedal for my P1 bindings size M. I’m pretty sure this will also fit other models from this era such as the Mission, Carter and so on. The original became super brittle and crumbled into pieces. I did some minor changes to the design which shouldn’t affect the fit but increase the durability slightly. I designed a small groove where the two pins of the binding slide over while you’re adjusting the length of the pedal. This puts a little less stress on the ribs since you don’t have to bend the part that much - at least that’s where mine initially started to break. Once the binding is mounted to the board the pedal shouldn’t move anymore. I managed to peel of the original foam rubber in one piece by heating up the underneath with a hairdryer thus softening the glue. I reattached them with a strip of double-sided adhesive tape to the printed parts. In case your foam pad is worn out or damaged try to get some foam rubber from a hardware store. They usually sell them in different thicknesses, sometimes already with adhesive on the backside. The pad is kind of wedge shaped with the thicker part at the front. At the highest point it measures 6 mm and fades out to 2 mm at the backside. Just glue three layers of 2 mm material in a stairway-like shape onto the pedal. This should make it easier to sand it to the desired shape. I printed the model upside down in PLA plus with 0.2 mm layer height, 215 °C, 100% infill and supports where necessary. The support structures came off quite easily. PLA plus from filamentworld is a lot tougher than regular PLA and also handles the cold quite well. I also did a modified version where the rubber foam pad is included in the design itself. I made the pad only 5 mm high since it won’t compress as the foam does. I’m not too sure about the grip and maybe the snow might stick to it but I’ll guess it’s better than staying indoors. I haven’t tried it but I reckon this version should be printed right side up and will therefore require lots of support material. happy shredding
