Currently still a work in progress, the latest addition to our home's renovation was a pair of custom-built bunk-beds crafted with love and dedication by myself as a thoughtful gift for my boys this Christmas season. Unfortunately, no existing sets met our specific requirements at a reasonable price point, prompting me to take on the challenge of creating something tailored just for us. With my design skills taking center stage, I embarked on the task of developing my own bespoke design using SolidWorks, where I meticulously drafted and revised various iterations until we arrived at the perfect fit. However, the demands of a new arrival, our adorable baby who graced us with their presence on the 31st, temporarily took priority, so I humbly ask for your patience during this transitional phase. Innovative use of tools such as the KregJig Jr. enabled me to create precision pocket holes, which proved not only practical but also an absolute blast to work with! The journey is ongoing as I navigate and fine-tune techniques, currently still searching for a solution that perfectly showcases these distinctive features. Meanwhile, adding fasteners will undoubtedly be the final step in this creative process. A flurry of SolidWorks sketches and measurements played a vital role in visualizing the precise placement and positioning of components, stringers included, although these rough drafts were purely reference points. Thankfully, my trusty mind served as an invaluable model shop during breaks and downtime when solidifying details – sketches aside – which often took center stage while traveling and on-the-go musings led to breakthroughs in our bunk bed designs!
