Bumper for Apple TV remote
thingiverse
I decided to shield my apple tv remote from impending doom, knowing its fragile lifespan would eventually come to an end. To prevent disaster, I sought out a protective bumper on thingiverse and found one that was refreshingly simple and practical, so I printed it out. However, upon testing the design, I encountered a significant issue - the clicker felt awkward in my hands, prompting me to take matters into my own hands by designing my very own bumper from scratch. I began with the existing design found on thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1168972 and modified it to reduce its bevel, thereby achieving a satisfactory click experience. However, I soon realized that this alteration resulted in the bumper becoming too loose, which led me to decide on printing a rigid insert to complement the flexible exterior. The internal component of my design is optimized for printing with flexible filament, while the outer shell is geared towards more rigid materials (I opted for PLA). Rubber bands are also crafted from flexible filament. **PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS** To bring this bumper to life, you'll need to print five distinct parts: + **RUBBER**: This part is a cinch to print, requiring just two iterations with flexible filament. + **INTERIOR BUMPER**: Printing this component in flex is crucial; make sure to orient it so the "UP" face is facing downwards. A subtle adjustment will help you get the perfect fit for your remote control. + **EXTERIOR BUMPER**: This part comes in two halves, separated by a 1mm gap to simplify printing. I recommend using supports and handling them with care once printed.
