Bullzeye Clock
thingiverse
The Clockwork Target is a mechanical gear clock powered by penny weights. Its face resembles a bullseye, and the pendulum looks like an arrow. This clock runs for about 8-12 hours, depending on the length of string used. Penny_weights.stl was taken from the MakerBot Clock on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18214). In addition to the printed parts, you will need: * 4 feet of nylon string * $2.50 in pennies * 1/16 stainless steel rods (~1.6mm) * 3.5 feet (about 1m) of 3/16 wooden dowel (~5mm) The pinions are superglued to their corresponding gear numbers, but the spacers are not glued. Gear1top is attached to gear1bottom, and the nylon string is wrapped around the drum with the counterweight on the left and four penny weights on the right. Make sure gear1 is tight against the rod and rotates it while the other large gears are loose and rotate freely around their rods. Only gear10 should be tight and turn with the shaft; the other gears should be loose. You may want to apply powdered graphite to the rods to keep them turning smoothly. Study the photos and TinkerCAD screenshots for assembly instructions. UPDATE: I have created an alternative way to wind the clock using a ratchet mechanism. This allows you to use something like fishing line tied at the halfway mark through ratchet teeth. The weights can be started with the small weight unwound and the drive weight wound. Be sure to only glue the rod to the ratchet gear; otherwise, as you wind the clock, the time hands will reverse. Print Settings: * Printer: OneUp * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.2mm * Infill: 30% * Notes: I designed this to be printed on a minimum of a 100x100mm print bed. Post-Printing: After printing, remove any extra material from the gears and ensure the clock is level and firmly against the wall when mounting. To adjust the beat of the clock, move the pendulum bob higher on the rod to speed it up or lower to slow it down. I designed this clock using TinkerCAD.
