this is a bull roarer, an ancient ritual instrument and communication device originally made out of wood. Attach to a string then spin it. once it is spinning swing it around to make a burring noise that is quite loud. use a more "twistable" string for better results, Shoelace works just fine. If you know Poi, this is also a unique juggling prop to add to your collection.
