The Shaft Saver: A Game-Changing Add-on for Bulldog Lite Users Looking to ease the pressure when tightening tension screws? Look no further than the extra bearing at the end of the shaft on your stepper motor, carefully designed to provide much-needed relief. Measuring in at a sturdy 10x4mm, this robust bearing is precisely what you need to counteract the force exerted by those tighteners. But wait – did you know it may not even be necessary? Some users have reported mixed results when employing this extra support. So, does the Shaft Saver truly live up to its promise? Unfortunately, not in every case. One dedicated maker tried adding the bearing, only to discover that their printer still skipped steps from time to time. It seemed the demands placed on their non-geared Nema 17 stepper motor proved too great – at least with an E3Dv6 configuration. Fortunately, there's a workaround. Upgrading to a geared Nema 17 resolved the step-skipping issue altogether! In this situation, the Shaft Saver remains a superfluous component. Nevertheless, adding a shaft relief can still prove beneficial in avoiding over-stress on the motor bearings – even if not a fix for stepping problems per se. **Instructions:** We created this add-on after speculating that our printer's tendency to skip steps might be attributed to a similar design flaw. With meticulous care, we crafted the Shaft Saver in Inventor Fusion for Mac, aiming to bring you a reliable and high-quality solution. To sum it up: don't assume this bearing is your one-way ticket to silky-smooth prints just yet. Yet – with caution and prudence - a well-equipped setup still makes good use of it, as the upgrade itself was not so bad in the end.
