Human Rights are universal and inalienable, they belong to every individual without exception. They are the foundation of human dignity and freedom, and their protection is essential for a just and peaceful world. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948, as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and nations. It sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all human beings are entitled, regardless of their nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
