
Bull Bowl Spout, Mleiha, Sharjah

This is a vessel in the form of a bull or cow that was once used by humans. The artifact was unearthed at the archaeological site of Mleiha, located within the emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Based on radiocarbon dating, this ancient relic is estimated to be approximately 2,200 years old, with a catalog number of ML5-59. A total of 448 photographs were taken of the vessel, which has undergone extensive processing using Reality Capture software. The images have been aligned, scaled, modeled, cleaned, simplified, unwrapped, textured, and meshed to create an accurate digital representation of the artifact. This vessel was featured in a book titled "Mleiha: An Arab Kingdom on the Caravan Trails," which was published in Brussels in 2018 by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority. The author, B. Overlaet, presented this find as part of a broader examination of the history and culture of Mleiha. In a separate publication, J. Mª Córdoba provided further insight into the era of Mleiha, highlighting the significance of navigation and trade in the region before the advent of Islam. This research was included in a larger exhibition catalog titled "EN LOS CONFINES DE ORIENTE PRÓXIMO: El hallazgo moderno del país de Magán," which took place at the Museo Arqueológico Nacional from April 18 to May 29, 2016.
