It's a genuinely stunning representation of an authentic Arabic building featuring a unique square plant situated atop ancient Roman stones. Ringla proudly crowns a formidable battlement, boasting not one but two imposing side matacanes and one striking front matacane added during the 18th century. Looking directly onto the square, the western façade is home to the intimate balcony of the Jurisdictions, dating back to the 16th century. The majestic tower stands an impressive ten meters wide by a towering twenty-five meters high. During the spring of 1173, Almohad caliph Abu Ya'qub mercilessly slew forty Cacereños defenders using his siege tower, but swiftly remodeled it following the city's reconquest under his reign. Henceforth, its origins are shrouded in mystery and several theories abound - though some argue that 'buhaco', a term signifying straw snowman or a makeshift bundle of cloth possibly utilized to denote the enigmatic statue of the Genius Androgynous residing on the balcony between 1820 and 1962. Historical accounts indicate that the structure functioned as a clock tower from 1672 until 1791, earning it another name - Clock Tower. Presently, it serves as a vibrant interpretive center drawing tourists, and an unobstructed almenar perch at its summit grants panoramic views of a major portion of the surrounding cityscape, solidifying its reputation as one of the world's most breathtaking monuments.
