Bug Catcher V1
thingiverse
Seems when I fire up the wood stove, those pesky "stink bugs" suddenly appear out of nowhere like magic. Flexible LED strip gets carefully cut and installed around the inside ring of the ramp, with the LED's facing the sloped side for optimal visibility. A few dabs of hot melt glue add to securing the strip in place, ensuring it stays put even when the wood stove is blazing. I used 9 LED's from the strip to create a mesmerizing display that attracts the unwanted pests and traps them inside. The lights are then connected to a 9Vdc wall wart via some quick soldering, making it easy to plug in and enjoy the show. A little dish soap added to the mix makes the sides of the ramp slick as a snake's belly, allowing the bugs to slide right on down into their new home. To make it even more effective, I added a lil' water with dishsoap in a cup, creating a slippery surface that's impossible for the bugs to climb out of. The top can be modified to hold everything in place better, but I was in no rush and didn't want to spend too much time on it. I also created another version of the ramp, scaled down by 0.8, and was thrilled to find that the LED's fit perfectly around the ring. To get the best results, be sure to flip the ramp part for a better print. And all I can say is that it works like a charm!
