Buffer

Buffer

This is a customized version of Daniel's buffers designed to maximize print quality by taking advantage of the superior strength of prints in the X-Y direction. To achieve this, I reworked them so they print at an angle. Unfortunately, my redesigned Daniel prints were prone to breaking when subjected to heavy impacts from trains or people. To create a more robust design, I had to eliminate all the nice rivets that made Daniel's original buffers stand out. Instead, I opted for a different aesthetic that doesn't require them. The bottom of the "feet" is now slightly smaller to ensure they slide smoothly onto LGB/PEKO track. However, this change also makes them vulnerable to being pushed by trains. To mitigate this issue, I added a clip-on "Buffer Lock" mechanism that securely clips to the track and prevents the buffer from moving past a track beam. To take full advantage of the superior print strength in the X-Y direction, it's essential to arrange the parts as shown during printing. This setup allows for special extensions that support the "upper" part of the track clips on the sides, making supports unnecessary. After printing, the small pillars and extension bits can be easily removed. I printed these customized buffers using ASA material.
