Budget Enclosure From Plastic Drain Pipe

This end cap is designed to fit standard 65mm square plastic pipe commonly used in the UK for rainwater down pipes from roof guttering. Due to a lack of affordable enclosures at my local hobby store, this project aims to provide an economical solution for prototype enclosures on small projects. The provided end cap comes as a plain blanking plate that can be modified to accommodate various components such as switches, connectors, brackets or any other attachment needed. The end cap has a reasonably tight press fit, although varying sections of the pipe may necessitate slight adjustments. A firm grasp is usually enough for it to fit properly. In cases where this isn't possible, gently applying hot water can soften PLA enough for successful assembly. To ensure a secure and detachable assembly of the end plate to a plastic pipe, you can use an epoxy glue or add small holes with grub screws on either side, making dismantling easy if necessary. The design files in FREECAD format are included; this open-source software is freely available across major operating systems such as Windows, macOS, Linux and others.
