Limestone Buddha Head, 8th C CE, now resides proudly in the Minneapolis Institute of Art collection. According to the sculpture's description on artsmia.org, this image of Buddha Shakyamuni follows closely the classic style developed by early Dvaravati sculptors. The face is distinctly square, mouth wide open, nose flat, and hair curls large. Although the Dvaravati artists borrowed ideas from idealized Indian sculpture, this head showcases that facial characteristics of the indigenous population were soon incorporated into their religious art.
