Gautama Buddha, known also as Siddhārtha Gautama, Shakyamuni Buddha, or simply the Buddha after his title, was a renowned ascetic sage whose teachings laid the foundation for Buddhism. He is thought to have spent most of his life teaching and living in ancient India's eastern regions around the time between the fourth and sixth centuries BCE.
